The gender critical rabbit hole

Every now and again, I go down the gender critical rabbit hole. I understand why people find it a decisive and emotionally volatile subject. And I partially agree with some of the issues raised (by the critics).

But nine times out of ten I fail to understand why they are so involved and so outspoken, or have made a huge campaign on the subject, when they don’t seem to have any skin in the game whatsoever.

I just watched an interview of someone saying he just felt someone needed to do something about it. And that’s it. He just decided he didn’t like what he was seeing and went to war.

We need to zoom out and realise that the existence of trans people doesn’t harm anyone. And neither does the existence of gender critical people.

It’s how we behave that matters. Can we care enough as humans to understand that we don’t understand and what’s really going on here?

Are we being manipulated into arguing for or against ideologies that are being misrepresented? And are we attacking people instead of seeking understanding?

Why are trans people here? How do we include trans people? How can we feel safe as trans people? How do we find common ground without demanding people change for us?

Nearly everywhere I go, inevitably the fact I’m trans becomes an issue for people, even in minor ways, even as a ‘positive’ virtuous act. And I don’t even make it an issue. I make no demands. I live and let live. I just want to live my life in peace and feel included as a person.

I have said in the past that I don’t want to be trans. But it’s more like, I don’t want to be trans in this world at this time.
