Freedom has to really mean freedom

I watched the clip of Neil deGrasse Tyson debating Ben Shapiro on the science of why Transgender people exist.

He's exposing how science is used as an argument to undermine freedom of expression.

Shapiro seemed to entirely miss the point though. His authoritarian top down ideology won't allow for the idea of freedom for all.

He clearly wants to maintain the out of touch status quo. And is interested in science as long as he can use it to justify erasing trans people, and other things he doesn’t want in his world.

This interview seems to expose this better than ever. Shapiro and those that share similar authoritarian ideologies are very clever at dodging this kind of exposure. But he seems to have missed that it even happened.

It seems like (‘impartial’) people like Tyson are beginning to challenge with clear and meaningful arguments.

So, thank you deGrasse Tyson for meeting him head on like this. We need this.

The world is changing, and it seems ridiculous to me to try and maintain the old ways. We can’t live like that anymore. Freedom of expression has to really mean freedom.

We have to all understand that me-being-me doesn’t affect you-being-you. And that I am not inherently harmful to you. The world is changing not because of me but because that’s what the world does.

I don’t need you to accept me. But I do need you to stop trying to erase me.

Better yet, support me. Us. All of us. Because in the end this is about all of us. All the different people in the world.
