Reclaiming Email

I don’t assume Big Tech is abusing my emails, but neither do I assume my personal communication is completely private. Email is inherently not private, unfortunately.

In this online world of tracking, fingerprinting, and targeted content (advertising), I am making moves to secure my online accounts, including email. Yes, I still make a conscious choice to trust my data in certain circumstances with organisations that could theoretically read personal data stored on their servers. But it’s about finding balance between owning my data; having privacy; trusting privacy laws and service provider policy; and being able to choose (portability) — whilst not getting paranoid about it all.

Notes on Awakening

Some days it doesn’t happen. Some weeks; some months even. When I look back at 2020, it feels as if I had never realised the Truth. But in a relative sense, I was certainly kicking ass.

I’m talking about Self-Realisation; being Awake; being Conscious; being Aware of Awareness.

The plain fact is that the planet does not need more successful people. But it does desperately need more peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers, and lovers of every kind. It needs people who live well in their places. It needs people of moral courage willing to join the fight to make the world habitable and humane. And these qualities have little to do with success as we have defined it.

The Straight Story

(1999, Directed by David Lynch)

A sentimental slice of quiet life on the road and a reflection on the delicate nature of our inner worlds. It’s sweet, but not overly-sentimental — although the soundtrack is a little much for my taste. The film reminds me of one of those made-for-tv movies designed to pluck at heart strings, and although that may have been intended the film works because of it’s honesty and quiet directness. A reminder of 90s film making, but timeless in presentation, with great photography. I liked it.

Transcendental Day

It’s been a wonderful day! One of those rare days — at least in the last few months — where I can truly say I went above and beyond, into new realms. Where I felt fully awake, conscious and honouring each moment. Even the difficult ones. And in this way at the end of my day, I somehow feel complete; and ready. For something: to move on, let go, be, rest.

It’s been a day of creation. And to top it off I took my camera out (on a whim) for a walk into the wet and early night. Trudging through the mud and rain, into the darkest parts of the park I experimented, feeling wildly inspired with every shot, marvelling at the beauty of each moment clicked, and the results hinted on the display on the back of my little camera. Skimming through my photos just now I was genuinely amazed and moved at what I have achieved. These shots really reflect what I was feeling, bringing back these narrow moments in time and space; they feel raw and wild; wondrous and pretty as fuck. Some of these photos may be up there with some of the best work I’ve ever done.
